Something else Russell Pearce finds to be 'unconstitutional.' THE CONSTITUTION

Russell Pearce, the Arizona legislator who brought us Senate Bill 1070, tonight on Larry King said that the fourteenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution is 'unconsitutional.'

Yes, you heard that right.

Of course the fourteenth amendment is PART of the Constitution, and got there only by going through the same mechanism set out in the Constitution to amend it; that is by passing both houses of Congress and then being ratified by the legislatures of 3/4 of the states.

So now the far right is claiming that the Constitution is 'unconstitutional.'

He's wandered off into the really deep grass on this one. What a moron!

I find this latest Republican ploy extremely disturbing. It's like they are brazenly advocating that this nation bring back slavery and indentured servants.

It's has gone from being a border problem to a bigoted attempt to deny human rights. I think blacks, women, gays, and labor are being targeted just as much as undocumented foreign workers.

Think about it. If they can persuade citizens to deny anybody human rights, they can use that argument to deny everyone they want those same rights. I hardly think the Founders had that in mind when they decided to set up a democracy.

What this is really about is business interests trying to exert overwhelming control to insure cheap labor. It's an economic form of slavery. If you don't have the same rights as others in a society, you are helpless and must accept the fate the aristocracy will give you.

Too many Reagan Democrats voluntarily handed over their economic rights and are too afraid to assign blame against those who have them under their thumbs. Republicans are stirring the racists and sexist waters to keep the heat off their backs and the economic truth.

This Birthright Babies argument is just another wedge issue like gay marriage or abortion. It's a diversion from the failed policies of the GOP and their incompetence as leaders.

The bottom 98% better get their priorities straight before they fine themselves being forced to flee to Canada for basic human dignity as well as a decent-paying job.

There are some pretty sick people in the Republican base these days. Most of them are racists dupes or Wall Street frauds. None of them have a religious bone in their bodies.

"Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country." 1866, Senator Jacob Howard

So immigrants who have lived and worked in this country for decades are tourists and diplomats? Even the good Senator from 1866 would have laughed at your Palinesqe argument.

btw, Senator Howard was speaking about slavery not immigration. Thought I wouldn't notice?

By all means run on a return to slavery and indentured servants instead of fixing the mess caused by the failed policies of George W. Bush. Threaten voters to return to them.

I guess it's better than reminding people of the 15 years of a borrowing and spending by Congressional Republicans, Wall Street deregulation, outsourcing, and welfare for the wealthy.

This is the best you have as an agenda? How about suggesting we overturn the Bill of Rights while you are at it? Oh, I forgot. Cheney got rid of most of it when he was running the White House.

Get real and tell the Big Banks to start extending credit to small businesses again. It would go a lot further to winning your side a few Brownie points with voters than spouting this silly nonsense from the Reconstruction Era.

Pearce has lost it. He cannot think.
