Take a moment to support two unsung heroes

Humanitarian Aid is Never a Crime

On July 9, 2005 two No More Deaths volunteers, Shanti Sellz and Daniel Strauss, were arrested by the United States Border Patrol while medically evacuating 3 people in distress from the desert near Arivaca, Arizona. Shanti and Daniel go on trial December 20, and are facing charges that could land them in prison for fifteen years.

Join with border activists, humanitarians, faith-based groups, and others who are supporting Shanti and Daniel in saying Humanitarian Aid is Never a Crime by posting this message on your Web site, journal, or blog.

And, to get an idea of what kind of guy some on the other side of this (including Arnold Schwarzenegger) are holding up as an example, Minuteman founder Chris Simcox, the Tucson Citizen has a pretty good article on what kind of guy he is: paranoid, child abuser (both of his ex wives said pretty much the same thing), bigot, nut.

Talk about being able to find a cloud in any silver lining. You can't focus on the nightmare to the point that you let go of the dream. At best, be realistic about it, but keep on dreaming.

I guess I'm an incurable optimist. I really believe that no matter how bad things get, eventually they will get better.

As a Liberal, that helps me get up and smile at the world every day for the next 1,116. Every day that goes by without the Bush agenda moving forward is a small victory for America.

And the good part here is that there will always be people like Shanti and Daniel who are willing to risk going to prison to save people.

Against the loonies on the right who want to literally build a wall around the country (remember when if you said that, it was dripping with sarcasm), those who support meaningful immigration reform so that we won't have hundreds of people a year dropping dead here in Arizona, there are those who see clearly that a human being is a human being, and they are in distress, then providing humanitarian aid to them should not be a crime.
